LUND: Doreen Evelyn Lund. On Thursday, August 30th, three months after a devastating diagnosis of untreatable cancer, Doreen was released from her pain and frustration. Doreen (DeeDee) was born May 30th, 1952 in Deloraine, Manitoba, the first born of James Wilson (Jim) and Marion Lorraine (Mitchell) Kennedy. In 1953, as a toddler, she contracted polio but with her mother's intensive rehab exercises and surgery in her early teenage years recovered most of her mobility. After completing Secretarial Science at ACC she began working in Brandon as a legal secretary for Bill Pearson of Clement, Pearson, Potter and Williams. Being in the same building as Kokono's frequently provided an irresistible temptation. She proof read everything and the typographical and grammatical errors she found were a source of annoyance and, occasionally, pointed comment. Doreen continued working as a legal secretary in Melita after marrying Chuck in 1978 until becoming a stay at home mom in 1980. She was actively involved in her children's activities in Melita, Arborg and Dauphin. In April, 1994 she started in the office at Signal Industries eventually rising to become the General Manager, retiring in 2017. Interaction with “her” customers brought her much satisfaction and many good friends over those years. No road trip was wasted, checking out all of the signage along the way. Doreen enjoyed touring the Park, looking for a bargain in the shops at Wasagaming, hoping for an up close encounter with wildlife or just sitting around a campfire at Moon Lake or The Spruces. Her winter trips to warmer places were few but she enjoyed Cuba, Hawaii and Mexico especially if the bar put together a good mojito. Doreen is survived by her husband of forty years, Chuck; daughter Erin (Adam) of Winnipeg; son Jeremy (Stephanie) and her beloved grandson Callum of Edmonton; her mother Marion of Brandon; sisters Lori (Ken) Blyth of Edmonton and Jodi of Brandon; and by Chuck's siblings Gerry (Angela), Trish (Claire), Randy (Joan) and their children. She was predeceased by her father Jim (2012), and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Marion Lund and sister in-law Lily Lund. In accordance with Doreen’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A graveside service for family and friends will take place at a later date. Thank you to Dr. Riley Smith and the nurses and aids at Dauphin Palliative Care who helped make her last days as comfortable as possible. A special Thank You to Shelley and Marvin, and Jerry and Terri for their support and assistance over the past months. Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to: Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 1857 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 3E7 or to a charity of one's choice.
